So you wanna be Jerrica ‘Jem’ Benton for Halloween? Call up your girl band, and join the club! We partnered up with the super fabulous friend and talented makeup artist Texas Dela Rosa to create this modern beauty look inspired by this 80s classic. Considering both he and Miranda are legit Jem fans, Texas knew just what was needed to transform Anna Lise into this bona fide 80s rocker babe. Luckily, you can easily get the look at home just in time for Halloween with this simple beauty tutorial from the master himself!
Step 1: Use your foundation of choice, and lightly apply it all over your face. Texas used MAC NW20 Pro Long Wear on Anna Lise. Touch up any areas that need extra coverage with your favorite concealer. Apply a light powder to set.
Step 2: Apply an eye primer to prevent creasing, and let it set for a few minutes. We like Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion.
Step 3: Layer on the sparkle! Now’s a good time to start applying your ‘Jem And The Holograms’ Flash Tattoos to that pretty face of yours. Carefully cut out the designs you want to wear from the sheet, and remove the clear liner. Place the tattoo onto your skin, and gently press it onto your skin with a wet washcloth. Remove the paper once it is fully soaked, and pat the tattoo with the wet washcloth. To allow the tattoo to set into your skin, do not to move or stretch the areas where the tattoo was applied for about 20 minutes.
Step 4: Get those brows on fleek! Texas filled in Anna Lise’s brows with Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz pencil in Medium Brown to achieve that full, groomed 80s eyebrow look.
Step 5: With an eyeshadow brush, blend a bright pink eyeshadow (Texas used MAC eyeshadow in Passionate) from the lash line to the brow, connecting the inner corners of your eye to the top of your brow and the outer corner of your eyes to the end of your brow. Then, blend the pink out from the lower waterline. He advises, “Have fun with it and go as dark or pigmented as you want. Jem is all about having fun, so bright and bold works best.” With a fluffy eyeshadow blending brush, apply a deep purple into the crease and blend. For this, Texas used a purple Ben Nye cream to create the initial depth in the crease. He then layered on MAC Pigment B14 and iridescent pink-purple shadow with a cotton swab to add extra sparkle and dimension. PS Texas found this rad Urban Decay ‘Electric’ palette that would be a perfect one stop shop to achieve all the eyeshadow looks for your girl band…rock on!
Step 6: With a thin eyeliner brush, apply a gold sparkle liquid liner or cream liner. Texas achieved the Jem look with the gold color from the Make Up Forever Flash Palette….and we’re now obsessed with this stuff, just sayin’.
Step 7: Use a good defining mascara to finish the look. Texas applied several coats of MAC Zoom Lash to Anna Lise’s lashes.
Step 8: Apply a swoosh of blush to the apples of your cheeks. Texas used Nars Orgasm to bring a peachy glow to the look.
Step 9: Add a pop of brightness to the lips with Sephora Luster Matte Pink Flush lip color, and top it off with Sephora lipgloss in #28.
Step 10: For the final touch, apply the Swarovski crystals around the face to add some rockstar-worthy sparkle. Ta da!
Just a note on Anna Lise’s perfectly punk pink hair…it’s the real deal! She used a mixture of Pravana pink colors on her bleached blonde hair to get that vibrant pink. If you aren’t as committed to the look, spray hair chalks or wigs are a good alternative. Sally Beauty Supply, Walgreens or costume shops are a good place to find them.
You babes know the drill….Flash us your #TrulyOutrageous Jem look on Instagram! Tag @flashtattoos @texasddr, and rock on!
